Teacher’s opinion Dra. Ana Lucía Quiñónez Beltrán As a teacher of this subject, it has been a wonderful experience because we had the great opportunity to help poor children who do not study a foreign language due to their economic resources. I am very proud because students did their best in order to fulfill this special activity which is related to the vision and mission of the Universidad Técnica Particular de Loja. This activity was possible thanks to collaboration of Sister Blanca Terreros, Director of the shelter, who let us to work in that place and gave us the required information. At the end of this event, she was grateful and requested us to continue working there next term. Students’ personal experience Xilena Aldeán Sandoval It is my first time working with children of that age. At the beginning it was very hard, their behavior was horrible! I didn´t want to go back the next day but I did, this day was as hard as the first one, but this time I started to like the children. The third day things went better because the conduct shown was completely different, they were quiet and followed the instructions given by myself. Since this point the children and I started to become friends and the classes were very funny and active. We sang songs, played games and had some fun while we learned. The last day I didn´t want to leave, it was very sad to see those faces asking us not to leave. However, after this activity I felt glad because I did a little bit for these kids and any free time that I´ll have I will do my best to go back to visit them and have more cool time. Thalía Quizhpe Jaramillo and Vanessa Preciado Asanza First of all, this experience was very rewarding for both of us because we taught English but we learned a life lesson that we will remember forever. We were designated a group of kids from six to eight years old, even though at the beginning they were noisy and had a bad behavior we were able to manage the group achieving our main goal that was providing at least a piece of knowledge of English, and the most important thing we gave them love, and also we tried to listen to what they had to say. In the past week, the kids learned the alphabet, the numbers, the colors, the names of the animals, and the body parts through songs that were used as a technique in every second period of the day classes, the kids enjoyed very much this part, because they were able to express their emotions; and besides they could have some time where they felt free to move around the playground. Finally, we want to thank the university and the authorities for giving us the opportunity to live a period in our lives where we showed our humanism and where we found a part of us we did not know. At the end we were sad to leave but at the same time happy of having being part of this fulfilling activity. Silvana Riofrío Peña It is amazing the difference between kids from a private school and public school not only because of the quality of education, but specially for the behave of the kids, this experience was very interesting and full of learning, my group was made by children of 3 to 5 years old, even that they were very little they had also something new to learn, the first day was very shocking because kids did not know us and they did not want to listen and pay attention but everything changed the second day, children were so lovely and cute during the week we learnt numbers and each day I gave them material to work. Every day we used to color and dance. The experience was very nice because first kids did not want to cooperate but at the end they did not want us to leave, I was very sad because they were very caring I am very glad to have the opportunity to teach them a little bit of my knowledge and also to meet these beautiful kids. |
