Workshop

On November 14th, profesors of RESEC participated in a seminar about “The Competency-Based Model”.
The seminar was given by Rigoberto Castillo, who holds a Ph.D in Foreign Language Education from the University of Texas at Austin. He has published a book on learner autonomy and another on strategic knowledge and language learning. He has also published articles in international and national journals. In 2003, he received from the Colombian Association of Teachers of English the annual Award for his contribution to the profession. He teaches and conducts research at Universidad Distrital in Colombia.

The objectives of this seminar were:
-    to train teachers in framing their curriculum design, their methodology and their assessment in competency based-learning.
-    to familiarize participants with the IMPLEMENTATION of levels and descriptors of the Common European Framework for teaching, learning and assessing foreign languages (CEF).

Considering that the UTPL has chosen to use a competency based model for teaching in learning, this was an opportunity to be able to receive information that applies directly to their field.
